What is it?The Assassin is a progressive gravel bike designed for extreme conditions and everything in between. Its adjustable geometry allows you to customise the ride to suit your style without compromising on performance. Light, responsive, and incredibly comfortable, it is equipped to handle whatever demands your gravel riding presents.
Who is it for?The Assassin is ideal for explorers, racers, bikepackers, trail riders, and even commuters, anyone eager to venture off the beaten path and discover where it leads. With exceptional compatibility and geometry that adapts to your needs, the Assassin offers outstanding performance in every scenario.
Why did we make it?Gravel riding deserves better options. Drawing on years of custom bike expertise, we aimed to create a frame that adapts to the rider and the conditions rather than forcing the rider to adjust to the bike. Confident handling is what every rider desires, but the geometry that achieves this varies for each individual and the terrain they navigate.

Key Features

Adjustable geometry

The front and rear flip chips allow you to adjust the head angle, trail, and chainstay length to suit your terrain, tires, and riding style. The frame, made from a 1050g Toray T1100/T800/T700 layup, is lightweight, strong, and responsive for long rough days in the saddle and everything in between.

Tyre clearance

With 47 mm of clearance for both 700c and 650B wheels, the Assassin can handle everything from fast gravel roads to rough trails. You can run lower tire pressures to enhance grip and comfort without sacrificing steering responsiveness.

Drivetrain options

Choose between a 1x or 2x drivetrain, Sram, Shimano or Campagnolo, with gearing options up to 50/34, to accommodate racing, bikepacking, or anything in between.

Compatibility

This bike is compatible with dropper posts and Di2, featuring clean internal routing. Additionally, integrated front dynamo routing keeps your lighting and device power organised for those big sends.

Mounts and carrying capacity

The Assassin is equipped with various mounts. It includes fender and rack mounts, two bottle mounts, and four additional mounts on the top tube, down tube, and fork legs for bags, accessories, or extra bottles. The rated capacities are: rear rack 15 kg, front rack 5 kg, and fork-leg mounts 5 kg each.

Paint options

Choose from mild, wild, or fully custom paint options. Available colors include Desert Storm, Black Ops, Avoca Grey, Rothmans Blue, British Racing Green, Jet Fuel, or you can create your own custom design. To inquire about custom painting for your Assassin, please contact FiftyOne.

Flip Chips Explained

The Assassin’s flip chips let you set handling to your terrain and confidence. Rider preferences vary, and gravel varies even more, so one setting does not fit all. The Assassin is our first custom-building experience distilled into a factory frame.

At the rear, two chips provide three axle positions, allowing for changes in effective chainstay length and overall wheelbase in 5 mm increments. Go shorter for increased agility, longer for added stability, or opt for a middle position for a balanced feel.

At the front, the chips offer two positions. Low offers a slacker head angle and longer trail for more demanding terrain, typically with tyres ≥ 45 mm. High offers a steeper head angle and shorter trail for fast gravel and back roads, typically with tyres ≤ 38 mm.

Quick guide
• Long + Low: rugged terrain, more MTB feel, usually ≥ 45 mm tyres
• Short + High: milder gravel, more road-bike feel, usually ≤ 40 mm tyres
• Mix and match to find your sweet spot or leave it on your preferred setting and forget about it whilst incurring no weight penalty.

We had a clear vision for how we wanted the Assassin to ride, and our custom experience showed us how to get there.

Using Toray T1100, T800 and T700 fibres in a precise layup, the result is a gravel frame that weighs just 1050 g, rewards your effort like a great road bike and keeps you moving when rides are measured in days, not hours.

Progressive Geometry Explained

Gravel has now progressed into steeper and rougher terrains over longer distances, making stability and comfort just as important as speed.

For us, progression means moving beyond traditional all-road designs and incorporating insights from modern mountain bikes.

This involves slightly slacker head angles, longer trail measurements, an extended front center, and a lower bottom bracket.

These adjustments increase the wheelbase and redistribute weight, which boosts confidence on challenging descents while maintaining responsive steering.

The Assassin starts with this stable foundation, and the front and rear flip chips allow you to adjust the geometry for either a sharper, race-oriented feel or a slacker setup for rough trails, bikepacking, or ultra events.

Where It Rides

The Assassin is designed to excel across a wide range of cycling activities, from bikepacking adventures and long ultra races to creative commuting and short, intense gravel or cyclocross events. It offers unparalleled versatility.

On one end of the spectrum, you have gravel racing and riders exploring backroads and light-duty gravel paths, both seeking a bike that handles, weighs, and responds like a road bike.

On the opposite end, riders take on challenging terrain, requiring a sturdy bike that provides stability for steep, rough trails and singletrack.

Between these two extremes lies a variety of gravel roads waiting to be discovered, catering to different types of riders and bikepackers eager to explore.

The range of tyre choices illustrates this gravel spectrum: 700c × 35mm slicks represent one end, while 650b × 47mm tyres represent the other.

The Assassin’s flip chips allow you to customise the geometry and handling to suit your riding style and the terrain you encounter.

Origin of the Name

In 1910, the Tour de France ventured into the high mountains for the first time, tackling four grueling Pyrenean passes over a distance of 320 kilometers and ascending 6,000 meters. At the summit of the Col d’Aubisque, stage winner Octave Lapize expressed his frustration with the organisers, exclaiming, “Vous êtes des assassins! Oui, des assassins!” (You are assassins!)

Riding on mountain gravel may seem like madness, but for us, it is also liberating and irresistible. We decided to name our gravel bike after Lapize’s famous outburst: The Assassin.
